Violent Crime Highest in Blue Cities - Paul Krugman's Pants on Fire!

Lately several liberal columnists – Paul Krugman is one – have written that the crime rate is higher in many Red than in Blue states. So I decided to check this out, and since in many large cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco many crimes go unreported or not charged – a Liberal thing that reduces crime rates while actual crime soars – I decided to examine murders. 

And I found that Krugman was right – in a way. Many of the highest murder rates are in Red states, Mississippi (20.5) and Louisiana (19.9) leading the way. (Link)

 

However, a nonstate, Washington, DC, has the highest murder rate by far, 32.78 murders per 100,000 people. I had already done some research about murder rates by race in 2019 and found that Blacks, who are 14.2% of the population, commit 49% of murders. (Link)

 

On that basis, I created a hypothesis that a state’s crime rate – at least for murder, the most heinous crime – may have more to do with where persons who murder at a high rate reside versus whether those states are Red or Blue. That led me to tread on ground that only few would dare, the race aspect of the crime of murder.

 

A comparison of homicides with Black populations by state showed a strong correlation of density of Black population and murder rate. Washington, DC, Mississippi, and Louisiana were numbers 1, 2 and 3 on both lists, and only two states with murder rates over 12.3, Oklahoma and New Mexico, were outside of the South and Mid-West areas with high Black population percentages – over the US average of 14.2%. At this point I was tempted to add Krugman and several other Liberal columnists to a category “Liars by Omission.” But there’s more.

 

Krugman et al also charged that crime was higher in many Red state cities, and again they were right – sort of. A list of the twenty cities with highest violent crime rates in 2022 included eight in Red states and a dozen in Blue, but eighteen of the twenty cities had Democrat administrations, one was non-partisan, and one (Anchorage) was Republican. More Liberal columnists lying by omission, thereby earning a place in the Liars category. (Link)

By exposing the obvious racial component in violent crime, in the eyes of Liberals I’ve earned a place in the Racist category. Even if I’m right I’m wrong, judgmental, and thoughtless too. They are sure that White systemic racism is the cause and I guess that is why ninety percent of murdered Blacks are killed by other Blacks, and both victim and murderer are usually young males. Only eight percent of Black murders are by Whites, so “Black Lives Don’t Matter” seems to be the real Blacks’ slogan.

 

And before Blacks can say, to paraphrase Flip Wilson, “The (White) Devil made me do it!”, about 90% of the Black vote goes to Democrats, and Democrats run those high violent crime cities. Black Votes Matter!

 

In 2019 the Blacks killed by police total was 251, or 10% of the total of 2,574 Blacks killed by other Blacks. (Link)

 

The Washington Post disputes this statistic and publishes a study showing that police kill about 1,000 per year, of which about 270 are Blacks. The Post found that “The rate at which black Americans are killed by police is more than twice as high as the rate for white Americans.” That would seem justifiable, since Blacks commit murder at a rate 3.45 times the rate for all others. It would be informative to know how many of the Blacks killed by police were in the course of violence being committed by Blacks on other Blacks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Still Bitchin' and Complainin' - Black Democrats

Benediction at Obama 's inauguration, Rev. Joseph Lowery: 'Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen'...

I'm glad that Rev. Lowery didn't ask the Lord to let "the yellow be mellow," because as I've already proven, most Asians are doing really well in America.

Asians have higher median incomes, higher education levels, the second highest home ownership, and second lowest poverty rate when compared to whites in America.

Since many Asians arrived in the United States with just the clothes on their backs, little education, and not speaking English, they have done remarkably well.

Was their advantage that their skin is white? As Rev. Lowery might rhyme, "No, that ain't right."

Was it because of their political pluck? "Lots of luck!"

Congressional Blacks, 43; Hispanics, 26; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 5.

So what special privileges do Asians in America have that makes them as successful or more successful than whites?

First, (take note of this, Rev. Lowery, 'cause it rhymes) dedication to education.

Second, hard work.

In America, Rev. Lowery, that's all it takes.

So tell the Black to get out of the back, the Brown to stop being down, and the Red that "yes we can."

A slave is someone waiting for someone else to set them free.

Slave, Obama set you free!

You're free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, free at last!

Now go to class and get to work.

Blacks are Racist and Homophobic

Blacks are not only racist, they’re homophobic.

California gays are in high dudgeon over passage of Proposition 8, which amended the California constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

Many gays are calling for boycotts of individuals and organizations that supported passage of Proposition 8. So far their greatest outrage has been directed towards the Mormon Church. That’s understandable. Mormons in California are relatively few in number and few of them support Democrats.

A few bolder and reckless gays are criticizing the Catholic Church, but most aren’t. The Catholic Church in California is huge, and roughly thirty percent of the voters in this election were Catholics. More importantly to gay activists, many Catholics are Democrats, and Liberal leaders don’t want to annoy them.

“Mormons si, Catholics no” is the Democrat motto for dispensing criticism.

Blacks voted approximately 95% Democrat (about the same as journalists), but roughly 65% supported Proposition 8.

Again, most Liberals and even gay activists are not criticizing Blacks support of Proposition 8.

“Stick it to the Mormons. It’s safe.”

Over half of Hispanic voters supported Proposition 8.

Do you think Liberals or Democrat leaders are going to criticize Hispanic voters?

Liberals and Democrat leaders are like the guy who was pushed around by a big bully, then got even by beating the Hell out of a little guy.

Obama - Another Man From Hope

I am struck by the outpouring of emotion from Blacks because of the election of Obama to the presidency. It’s not that I didn’t expect it, but one aspect repeats itself that surprises me: apparently Blacks will now be able to do what they couldn’t before, prosper in America. Again and again I read statements that now Blacks will be able to succeed educationally, vocationally, and economically.

It will be wonderful if that is true, but I wonder why it should be.

Two other large, easily identifiable minorities in America are more prosperous and successful than Blacks, and neither of them has ever had one of theirs become President. Asians in America as a group are as successful, and in terms of education and median income more successful, than White Americans.

Although not as successful in America as Whites or Asians, Hispanics already do better than Blacks in terms of education, median income, home ownership, and poverty rate.

Blacks can claim that they are still victims of lingering racism and the slavery of some of their ancestors (which ended over 150 years ago), but Asians and Hispanics have also been exposed to racism, not only in America, but often in their former homelands (perhaps even having personal knowledge of slavery). Many came to America with only the proverbial, often wet, shirts on their backs, not speaking English, frequently illiterate even in their native languages, penniless, and thrust into a strange culture. When they arrived they envied American Blacks, who were literate in English and established in American culture and in their communities.

Then in less than a generation many Asian immigrants became more prosperous than most of the long-established Black Americans, with higher median incomes and education levels than Whites.

Amazingly, all of that was accomplished without an Asian President, or even an Asian Secretary of State or Supreme Court Justice.

Charles Barkley is an Authentic Idiot

I listened to Charles Barkley’s diatribe about conservatives being “fake Christians,” which included his announcement that he would run for the governor of Alabama in 2014, and am now advising him to not give up his day job.

Charles’ rant centered around conservatives being fake Christians because they don’t follow Biblical teaching to forgive your fellow man and help the poor. According to the highly judgmental Barkley, conservatives are too judgmental.

Of what, he doesn’t say, except that he is for gay marriage and freedom to choose concerning abortions.

I never knew there were so many conservative Blacks until I listened to Charles and he reminded me of the many blacks that oppose abortion. Even Rev. Jackson, back in 1977, called abortion “Black genocide” before he realized that would cost him White liberal votes and contributions, and this caused him to immediately trade his soul to stay on the good side of “Whitey.”

Unlike the opportunistic Jesse Jackson, and the ignorant Charles Barkley, many principled Black leaders and “authentic” Black Christians oppose abortion, as do many Catholic Democrats.

A Zogby International poll found that 62 percent of Blacks said “abortion should never be legal or be legal only when the mother's life is in danger or in cases of rape and incest.”

Concerning gay marriage, 58 percent of Blacks say they would never vote for a candidate who was for gay marriage. Charles should also be aware that the percentage of Blacks opposed to gay marriage is even higher in the South. As ignorant as he has shown himself to be, he may not be aware of the positions and issues that are important to the people he fancies himself governing in six years.

Since 26 percent of Alabama’s five million citizens are Black, Charles should be aware that most of them disagree with him.

In fact, there are a lot of Black “conservatives” you’re going to have to explain yourself to when you start campaigning in Alabama, Mr. Barkley.

Since the only two issues you raised are sure losers in Alabama, I would be interested to find what positions you hold that you think are winners.

Since Alabama has voted Republican in presidential elections ever since their mistake of voting for Jimmy Carter in 1976, and now has a Republican governor, perhaps Mr. Barkley would find politics more to his liking in Massachusetts, or Berkeley, California.

I am loath to insult your intelligence by assuming your positions are as stupid as the ones you showcased on national television, Mr. Barkley, but apparently there is not much chance of insulting one’s intelligence if one does not have any.

Having More Fun Than The Law Allows

(This is a continuation of Prometheus 6 - Into The Lions Den, where a lively discussion ensued centered on my post, My Ancestors Owned Slaves. It was me against the website, and after a short while I felt I had them surrounded.)

Reluctantly, I say my goodbyes to Prometheus 6. They initiated the discussion, I chimed in with comments, and it didn't take long for the whole process to deteriorate into them posturing and posing. Once the "trash talking" takes over, nowhere is where you're getting fast. It was interesting and exciting for me, but I sensed I wasn't playing my part. I'm a foreigner in their culture and don't understand the significance of the profanity and put-downs. I think I was supposed to respond in kind, but that would come across as phoney. Since I haven't watched TV (except football) for over ten years, my "jive" talk would sound like ten year sit-com "jive"talk. And I bet no one but me calls it "jive" talk anymore, anyway.

I sent the following "goodbye" letter, but it appears I didn't need to, because Prometheus 6 already pulled the plug on me. I sent it a couple of hours ago, it went into their "comment moderation" cycle, and it hasn't appeared yet.

Worn Out My Welcome

It has been fun. I still have a lot of points on the table none of you have touched, for example, the General Motors analogy. Still, I see that you have declared victory, without breaking a sweat. So just sit back now and wait for the reparations checks to roll in. (See Cargo Cult, Reparations, and Casinos for more of my thoughts on Reparations)

Your boasts and brags are like tales “Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.” But for a few brief moments my article and comments stirred you, and you unleashed your torrents of “bigot, red neck, racist dog, Major Asshole,” and plantation imagery of mint julep sipping while watching the slaves sweating for ‘Ol Massa.

When you said in your comments I was “Beat Down,” I looked up "Beat Down," but didn’t find me there. Then I looked at what I have written, and I found someone who was happy to be brought to your Garden Party, even though you did so selectively by cherry picking my article. I didn’t write the article to be a race baiter, but I did hope to stir controversy. Mission accomplished. Why? Because I am a descendent of slave owners, and many Blacks are too. Blacks want reparations paid for slavery, but only because they are living comfortably in a nation that can afford to waste its money - on them. The Blacks living in Africa, most of them descendents of both slaves and slavers, know that descendents of the ones who were taken to the United States are the lucky ones.

Plus I don't suffer from the Liberal guilt that would make me keep my mouth shut.

In the meantime, my thoughts take me back to the over 21 years I served in the greatest meritocracy the world has ever seen, the U S Air Force in particular, and the U S military overall. The folks I served with proudly didn’t need reparations, or affirmative action, to get ahead and do a great job. Many, like me, were born and raised poor, but we took our opportunities and made the best of them. It feels great when the one responsible for your accomplishments is you, and you’re the only one to blame for your failures.

The person who says he can do it, and the one who says he can’t, are both right.

You've established nothing. You've only expressed your unsupported opinions.

Meanwhile, I think I'll stop past your place and see if you deleted my comments.

How interesting. He decided not to subject his folks to my comments, after earlier going to Real Clear Politics, selectively copying from my article, and commenting on it. I suppose I can understand why he doesn't want to subject "the folks" to my ideas - they definitely don't fit in on his plantation. Then he gratuitously declares them 20 years old - I didn't realize my ideas were time/date stamped - and that they are "race-baiting" because I don't support reparations and affirmative action.

These are not unsupported opinions. My article was opposed to paying reparations to Blacks for slavery because none of us were slave owners or slaves. Prometheus 6 never proved any of us were, and further never made a logical case - remember the General Motors analogy? - for a collective responsibility to pay Blacks reparations for slavery.

Other support for my "unsupported" opinions comes from Bill Cosby, Dr. Walter Williams, and Dr. Thomas Sowell. These learned gentlemen believe Blacks are responsible for their problems, and for their solutions. Making Black failures a collective responsibility that somehow can be solved by giving money for nothing is something that no fair and rational being could support.

Then his argument moved away from reparations for slavery, and morphed into living under Jim Crow. Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the vestiges of Jim Crow, over half of Blacks today were born after 1964, and many Blacks prior to 1964 did not live in the South, it is logical to say that only a small minority of Blacks alive today lived under Jim Crow.

Therefore, it is illogical to pay reparations to all Blacks for living under Jim Crow when most didn't, and since the vast majority of Americans alive today did not uphold Jim Crow or have anything to do with it, to have them pay for it.

But then it was time to move on to the book Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism (Hardcover) by James W. Loewen , $29.95 marked down to $18.87, currently number 72,062 in Amazon rankings. Dr. Loewen's anecdotal "proof" is very interesting, but not sufficient cause to pay all Blacks reparations because a small minority can't live in towns such as Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Darien, Connecticutt, and in all of Idaho (Huh? I didn't know they wanted to).

At this point I am wondering what the NAACP is doing to earn all the dues they collect, if they can't get their army of lawyers on these cases and end illegal housing discrimination.

While Dr. Loewen is at it, he should check on why so few Blacks live on The Sea Ranch, California. My buddy Don is one. I can't think of any others. I wouldn't want to live there myself - too many rules - but the median home price there is also $835,000, which makes it even easier to not live there.

His final statement, that he is going to check on me to see if I deleted his earlier comments, is illustrative of his warped viewpoint. I don't delete comments. I don't even "moderate" comments, as he does. I think he suspects me of being like him.

My post on Real Clear Politics Reader Articles, "My Ancestors Owned Slaves" was my most popular post so far by far. During the past three days I had over 400 visitors, and about 300 of them viewed "My Ancestors Owned Slaves," plus enough readers voted for it (and for "Making The Army Of Reconquista") to move both posts into the featured Reader Submissions category.

One added plus, a contributor to Prometheus 6, a Black-themed website, posted an excerpt and commented on my article. Click on "Prometheus 6" above to go to the post and comments concerning my article. Don't expect to find that anyone at Prometheus 6 agreed with anything I wrote. The following is my reply to the leading and following comments of the Prometheus 6-ers:


Feeding Time!

I want to get a few things straight in our discussion of my article, “My Ancestors Owned Slaves.” The first is I didn’t crash your “Prometheus 6” garden party; you invited me when you selected portions of my article to post on your website.

The second, I don’t have to base my arguments against reparations on going back to and discussing all the historical wrongs of slavery and the post slavery period; you have to convince me that you’re due reparations because you were victimized, not because your life has been tough. What you want may not be what you get, and so far I have not seen one coherent argument for reparations.

Third, I understand you have an incredible database to document the reasons for your failures; wallowing in victimhood seems to have become a national pastime, not just a Black obsession. I’m sure many of you have Ph. D.’s in Victimology.

Fourth, my disagreeing with you is not a sign of ignorance, lack of education, or intellectual capacity. If you take the time to go to my website and browse, you will find a lot of things you disagree with, but you will also find I have led a life of educational accomplishment, travel, and variety of experience. Born and raised poor, now living the American dream.

Finally, all the threats that I should “tread lightly, or get em-bare-assed,” or being called “Major Asshole Mike,” don’t constitute proof that you are right. I know I’m in hostile territory. I know you have your own Gospel of “the way it is,” and that nothing I do or say will shake your beliefs. In fact, it won’t even make you think, but maybe it will make you wonder if someone can have a reasonable and logical basis for disagreeing with you.

Blacks are not the only ones who have it rough. Not in the least. Irish tell of “No dogs or Irish” signs. Japanese lost property and were placed in internment camps during World War II. The Asian refugees you called “self selected” left Cambodia and Vietnam in fear of their lives. Hispanics are fleeing Cuban government oppression, and poverty and corruption in Mexico, Guatemala, and many other American nations. In Haiti, Blacks experience anything and everything that could be bad, and worse. Since all of these problems are blamed on Uncle Sam, maybe they should be the ones claiming reparations.

I hope I didn’t give them any ideas.

Just this past Friday a Rotary Club officer told of how she and her family suffered religious and ethnic persecution at the hands of both the Soviets and the Nazis, and spent over eight years in fear, desperation, and starvation before they were able to leave war-torn Europe for a new life in the United States. Arriving with no money, no education, not being able to speak, read, or converse in English, her father, brothers, and a sister dead, no family or friends to call on, she is now a successful business woman who has dedicated herself to improving the lives of unfortunate Africans – clean water, better nutrition, education – her gifts to the world, because of the opportunities she found in the United States.

Only Blacks who have experienced the inhumanity of Darfur, or Rwanda, can know how Jews in Europe were enslaved, starved, beaten and tortured, then killed with less humanity than we show a stray dog found in the street. Many of those who escaped annihilation arrived with ruined bodies and health, penniless, not understanding the language and culture, after living through a decade of Hell on Earth. I doubt any descendent of American slaves alive today has experienced the like.

As a final point, your analogy of citizenship and ownership of General Motors shares stinks. On this one, I’ll have to pull rank. Not the rank of a retired Air Force Major, but that of a CPA, MBA. When you buy the shares of a publicly traded company, like General Motors, your liability is limited to the amount of your investment. If the company goes bankrupt, not impossible given the current state of General Motors, and the company goes into liquidation (not likely), the investors are not liable for liabilities remaining after assets are sold and proceeds of the sale applied to liabilities.

Your analogy stinks on many other grounds. When you make an investment in a publicly traded company, you are investing in earnings potential, given past performance and projections of future performance. All this is done in light of the risk you perceive, and your degree of risk aversion. If circumstances change and now don’t suit your investment objectives, you sell General Motors and do something else with your money. Buying General Motors is a choice, being born in the United States isn’t usually, unless you’re a pregnant foreigner who gets across the border just in time to have your baby in the United States.

So far the analogy that underpins your whole argument doesn’t hold water. Come back at me when you get the intellectual leaks patched.

Choose Your Judge By Color

According to the San Francisco Chronicle Open Forum section, “It’s Time to Address Lawyer’s Lack of Diversity.” Charts and statistics were presented showing that most lawyers and judges in California are white, while just over half the California population is not. Apparently liberals think that justice should not be color blind. They must think a black man should have black lawyers, a black judge, and a black jury. That a Latino should have a Latino lawyer, Latino judge, Latino jury; that an Asian should have…you get the picture.

But wait. We have Philippinas, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Nepalese, and diverse others – shouldn’t each have their own diverse judiciary? Then there are Mexican, Guatemalan, El Salvadorian, Nicaraguan, Panamanian – and we still haven’t gotten to South America.

How do you draw the line on how much diversity is needed? No matter where you put it, someone is going to have hurt feelings. Unless you don’t put it anywhere, and just let natural legal forces map an ethical course. I would rather have an ethical judge than one who favored me because of my all-American Caucasian features, which tend towards the appearance of an Englishman. What if I got an Irish judge when I was being sued by Patrick Murphy?

Since this is the San Francisco Bay Area, the article also notes an emerging problem with the status of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender attorneys. What that problem would be I haven’t a clue, and I don’t want to know. Do they learn different law? Do these diverse attorneys and judges find litigants more or less worthy because of their ethnic or sexual status? If any do, including first, last, and always the white ones now a majority at the California bar, they should be forthwith disbarred. Ethics (and competence) over diversity any day.

But according to the authors of this cry for lawyer diversity, “We must adapt or become irrelevant to our clients and the community at large.”

How to adapt? “The first step to any meaningful change is serious self-examination. With this goal, the Santa Clara County Bar Association has appointed a blue-ribbon commission to address diversity issues in the legal profession in the Silicon Valley. Our society is changing and innovating, and the legal profession must begin to move to meet the demographic, business and professional demands of the future.”

Translation. They don’t have a clue.

However, I’ll bet that at some point they will put out a demand for lower standards for minorities in law schools and the professions. They will say, without blushing, and without saying “affirmative action,” that what the legal profession needs is less educated, less capable lawyers, who should be selected, compensated, and promoted at a higher rate than their white colleagues. The legal profession will fall all over themselves loving the idea, and trust that the Supreme Court, basic economics, and common sense will save them from themselves.

Meanwhile, the most capable of the minorities, for example the Chinese and other Asian ethnic groups that place a high value on education, will continue to ignore the legal profession and go into science, medicine, electronics, engineering, and other high-paying, hard-subject matter professions. And pray when they have to go to court that their judge didn’t get put on the bench through an affirmative action program, and resents that all the top students he competed against before law school were Asians.

In all the concern for ethnic, sexual, and gender diversity, there is one glaring omission. There is never a call for political diversity, even though almost all educators and journalists are liberals, and most of them are Democrats. Further, almost all defense attorneys, regardless of ethnicity, pledge their lives, fortunes, and their sacred honor to the Democratic party, lest the specter of tort reform raise its fearful head above the land.

Wow, a defense attorney contributing to a Republican, that would be a real diversity breakthrough!

Cargo Cults, Reparations, and Casinos

On some South Pacific islands, Melanesian natives had developed “cargo cults” starting over a hundred years ago. The Cargo Cults believed that manufactured western goods ('cargo') were created by ancestral spirits and intended for Melanesian people. White people, however, had unfairly gained control of these objects. Cargo Cult followers believed that if they simulated the activities of the whites they observed ( here and here), the gods would restore what was properly owed the true believers. To that end, Cargo cultists crudely copied white dress, and built aircraft landing strips with control towers, complete with coconut radios and bamboo antennas.

During and after World War II it looked like their prayers and simulations had worked. The US military flooded islands like Espiritu Santu and Efate in Vanuatu (formerly The New Hebrides) with western goods.

“At the war's end all of the military cargo disappeared along with the servicemen and on some of the islands a cargo cult developed to use customary magic to lure back the great cargo-carrying airplanes. Mock military drills were conducted with the men dressed in carefully preserved military uniforms hoping to convince the gods to restore the manna.”

The war ended over half a century ago, yet reports still come in of true believers waiting for their cargo ships to come and make all their wishes come true.

Before we laugh at their simple faith, we should look about us. For at least as long as the Cargo Cultists have believed their Big Kahunas could convince the gods to provide the material equality with whites which they are due, Blacks have been waiting for the Good Ship Reparations to come in, courtesy of Guilt-Stricken Liberals in Washington, DC, to deliver them equality with whites through reparations for slavery. Various reparations advocates have produced a variety of demands – yes, demands – to give them the wages their ancestors never received.

The practical Blacks want money for everyone, probably on the theory that any other system for divvying up the booty would leave them out, or shortchange them. “Man, I’ve been suffering all my life, and you want me to give it up, so a bunch of college kids can live it up?” (This is a made up-quote, meant to get a point across knowing it will probably be considered highly offensive by anyone who does get the point.)

The idealistic Blacks don’t want filthy money – they’re not greedy – they just want free college educations for all Blacks for a very long time. Many young Blacks will probably say about this idea, “What the f--- have you been smoking? Show me the money! I’ve been working hard since I started school to not get the education that Whitey trys to shove down my throat, and now I have to fight against getting an education for four more years?” (Made-up quote, a forgery that tells the truth, like the CBS President Bush, Texas Air National Guard papers.)

White supporters of reparations are equally the most sincere and most idiotic. They want reparations to give Blacks every government program -- job training, housing projects, government subsidies, etc. -- that have already failed miserably every time they have been tried. The liberals are still pursuing making poor people the equivalent of their lab rats to test their Socialist dreams. “Someday, something will work. All our concepts are 'can’t miss,' at least on TV and The Sims™. Too bad we have to deal with people and human nature, and not Sims™. Maybe we can fix that” (This is another made-up quote.)

Not to be outdone, with the help of the Great White Fathers in Washington, DC (again), our Native Americans have come up with the Casino Cult. According to true believers, once the money starts rolling in from the casino, all will be well. First, education will be a priority, and many will go to college that don’t now because …because …well, just because.

Tourists come here now, but not in large numbers, even though we have a rugged coastline that rivals Big Sur, have miles of pristine sandy beaches, fishing in the ocean and rivers, diving for abalone, hiking among the redwoods, deer hunting, camping and canoeing -- did I mention I’m in real estate? -- large numbers of tourists don’t come here because we’re a two-hour drive over narrow, twisting roads, from the nearest big city. To get here, gamblers have to drive by other larger and handier casinos. Not many gamblers are nature lovers; they are gambling lovers, and the sooner at the tables and slots, the better.

When you talk to some Native American leaders here, the casino will take care of all problems. The chronic alcoholism – I guess just about everyone will go into rehab. The unemployment rate of 50% or higher – everyone will have a job at the casino. The long criminal records of the many who returned to the reservation to escape the law and be there when the casino opens – when a lot of the students become lawyers, they can clean those records up. The chronic health problems because of alcoholism and bad life styles – when the rest of the students become doctors, they can take care of those problems too. Compulsive gambling – just won’t be tolerated; every gambler will have to sign a form that they are not going to gamble irresponsibly.

Of course. Casinos reduce crime, compulsive gambling, and prevent unhealthy lifestyles.

The casino that will take care of all problems will be here in -- pick a number, but I’ll bet it will be a lot longer than 10 years.

Spoken like true believers. Cargos. Reparations. Casinos. The dreams are alive.

Tower Of Babel Is A Democratic Goal

The Biblical lesson of the Tower of Babel has been lost on Democratic Senate Minority Leader - Democratic Senate Minority Leader, that sure has a nice ring to it - Harry Reid. In case some of us have forgotten, a brief summary:

According to the narrative in Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens. Because man had it in his heart to be like God, God stopped this project by confusing their languages so that each spoke a different language. As a result, they could no longer communicate with one another and the work was halted. The builders were then scattered to different parts of Earth. This story is used to explain the existence of many different languages and races.

I think if we ever let the likes of Harry Reid and other Democratic multiculturalists back in power, the United States will soon be a nation of many tongues, cultural divisions, ethnic jealousies - why should we stop at English and Spanish? How about Chinese, Tagalog, Serbo-Croatian? Soon the work of continuing to be the greatest nation the world has ever known will be halted because we will no longer be able to communicate with one another.

Have you ever spoken to someone in a foreign language? Many of us have. I was a Russian linguist for a couple of years in my Air Force career, and studied German in high school. The main impression I have of my conversations with others in their language was that we were communicating on a very basic level. We were not getting into deep philosophical discussions, or going deeply into the issues of the day. In other words, we were not really communicating, not in the way that builds bridges to understanding and directs efforts to a common goal.
